CalPhil on the Green

So Saturday we went to the CalPhil at the LA Arboretum.  The Arboretum was pretty.  The peacocks screamed their cry until sunset.  The concert began at 7:30pm but by 5:45pm when we arrived all the parking was taken so I dropped MsE off and parked across the way in the Race Track parking.  Not too bad.  The concert was ok.  I heard unsync'd notes.  The female soloist was ok.  But the baritone soloist -- Kevin Earley -- was FABULOUS!!!   It was a Roger's and Hammerstein concert.  Bits of South Pacific, Carousel, Sound of Music, the King and I and they wrapped with Oklahoma.  But since we both knew OK very well and we'd been sitting in hard plastic seats for 3+ hours we left before the final number.  That was OK by me.  Made getting out of there a song. . . ha!  I'm not sure I'd go again.  Maybe if we were at the tables.  But the chairs would still be very hard, the parking a nightmare and the conductor, well I get tired of hearing our conductor natter on during our concerts.  I got VERY tired of their conductor MrV. nattering on about his beloved R&H.  Good thing the tickets were through a wholesaler and only cost $12.50.  I didn't feel bad leaving before the last piece.

I love that music. I'm so glad you two got out on the town. Conductors commonly forget the concert is about the music and their mouths. I will come to visit while we live here. OK?
