So I walked the 1/2 mile down the hill to the muni. It wasn't working. They didn't have any idea when it would be working and I had one hour to get to school for class. So I hot-footed it back up the hill to the apartment. Changed clothes, printed directions to school, went down uncovered the scooter, tried to stick my backpack into the top box, which it wouldn't fit into. So I finally put the backpack on and got on the scooter. Of course at the bottom of the hill the muni was working again but by then I had no place to park the scooter so I kept on to school. It was about 90 and I'm wearing a helmet, jacket, jeans and boots. I made it to school, found motorcycle parking. But I didn't have enough quarters. So hot and sweaty I went into the nearby food place and he nicely sold me $2 in quarters to feed the meter, probably felt sorry for me. I made it to class with 5 minutes to spare. So I ducked into the bathroom. My hair was standing almost straight up in front from the sweat! And I was really red. Faucet water was hot, so I got a towel and used the drinking fountain cold water to try and cool down. Didn't help much. Since I was in the front row, the instructor noticed and asked me if I was ok since I was BRIGHT RED and I said yes, just warm from the scooter/helmet/jacket ride to school.

So going home. Of course I'm not familiar with SF. Didn't look at my directions closely enough and headed off.

Attached is the approximate ride I went on to get home because I sort of got lost. Still only took 35 minutes. But what a day.

SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-76766403744597825682010-06-17T09:32:00.000-07:002010-06-17T10:35:16.231-07:00Hi E & M from Sweet Pea and Bubba

Hi E and M - We miss you! and the house and the outdoors and the bugs/lizards that we could chase and the clean dirt and the trees. SF is great. There are lots of people out on the street with their dogs everyday and night and they can't chase us and we can spy on them from the top of our cat post so that's cool. Also we can spy on the other people on their patios, though that's not as interesting as being out there. We don't get to go out on the patio since it's 7 stories upand the drop is to concrete. Mom doesn't think we'd survive the 7 story drop so no patio. Almost afraid to touch the computer or anything else for that matter!

Friday -- my cat knocked over my brother's painting and it landed on a lamp finial poking a hole in it.

Saturday - Broke yet another highball glass

Tuesday - hung a shade to block the sun but took the thing apart by accident so now it needs to be taken down and fixed

Poked a nasty hole in my knee with a branch on the way down from that activity.

But now I'm afraid to get back up on the unbalanced ladder and fix the shade for fear that I'll break myself or poke a hole in my knee again or poke a hole in the window screen.

Tonight, Wednesday, I broke the handle on the vacuum cleaner

So I'm done. No more stuff. Hopefully no more breaks or tears or anything. Not much I could do watching TV the rest of the night!SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-35328073497244854232009-07-05T18:53:00.001-07:002009-07-05T18:54:15.899-07:00Sister's wedding videoSo I was going through the back cupboard today and discovered my sister's 1985 wedding video. I'm now watching it. Complete with funky 80's no-word music. Classic.

:-)SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-61471153471159891822009-06-26T21:30:00.001-07:002009-06-26T21:38:10.050-07:002 more days of workSo today I cleaned out my office. Gave away some of my office plants with the indian giver clause attached. I work Monday, Tuesday and that's it. The new chair and her secretary start Wednesday July 1. Sort of can't wait to hear what happens.

Monday July 6th I go in and collect my severance and start working on Mom's storage unit. I'm sure the cats will have a ball exploring all the boxes that come from the storage unit. I will too probably though it's more of a mixed bag for me.SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-78552573992609464782009-06-10T09:10:00.000-07:002009-06-10T09:29:47.041-07:00Week 2070 or Day 14,525So the week started out with Bubba CATapulting himself from the roof of the house to the patio umbrella. Where he froze so I plucked him off the umbrella but then he was so excited he couldn't calm down and raced around. He was again on the roof that evening but didn't want to jump onto the umbrella and just cried at me. So I got my step ladder out and pulled him down by the scruff of his neck, but the stray kitty who's been hanging around was up there and HE did jump down onto the umbrella. But then he was afraid of me so he jumped from the umbrella down to the ground but it didn't look very comfortable as he hit the wall of the house sort of upside down! Poor thing. He does seem ok today. Anyone want a stray kitty who's friendly?

So it's only Wed and I keep thinking/hoping it's Friday. I applied for another job and spoke to a head-hunter who essentially said not to bother looking for a job until after my vacation time as no one will want to hire someone who's going to be unavailable 7/24-8/25. I kind of knew that but the Career Counselor that work hired said to go ahead and start looking. Mixed messages are just so much fun.

Finally, I found out last Friday that CA Law states a landlord is required to tell any truly interested renter that someone died in the rental not only that but the way in which they died.

Can't wait to see what wonderful thing comes my way this Friday.SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-18395676192609581112009-05-28T16:17:00.000-07:002009-05-28T16:27:36.546-07:00Long weekSo it's been a very long week, even though it's actually been a short week as Monday was a holiday. But today I really really REALLY wish it were Friday.

Tuesday was supposed to be the hearing to set the preliminary hearing date and it was postponed again. It's now scheduled for mid-July. But that mid-July date is only to schedule the preliminary hearing date where the prosecutor/defense presents their evidence/defense and a judge decides whether there's enough to go to a jury trial. I can't see how there won't be enough to go forward and he won't be released on bail in light of the special circumstances filed against him. I profusely thanked my neighbor last night for making the Spec.Circumstances possible.

So I'm really tired this week. Ready for the week to be done. Ready to not deal with any more issues or answer any more questions regarding events of last month.

And I've been out of cream for 3 days for my coffee. MUST GO TO THE STORE!SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-75997725149490123722009-05-27T08:43:00.000-07:002009-05-27T08:50:07.427-07:00Co-workersToday I really wonder why others get to keep their jobs and I don't. I had a secretary call me this morning and ask where to get caps and gowns for graduation because the bookstore was closed.

Um - the bookstore isn't closed. It's minimal but it still has books for sale and probably is handling the caps/gowns for graduation. She didn't even bother to look the bookstore up online! Because as soon as *I* did it had a big spread about caps/gowns for graduation!

Geeze. It's just not fair. But then life hasn't really been fair lately has it?

Even Kit Kitridge who saved her house from foreclosure by solving the mystery didn't have it easy. She sucked it up and sold eggs. But then that was 1934 and the depression and a freaking book.SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-59089409618697455522009-05-02T17:14:00.000-07:002009-05-02T17:23:03.475-07:00Old SpiceSo today I did something constructive. I threw out Mom's old spices. The only thing so far I've actually been happy to do. Finally I'm allowed to throw out decade old spices! A full drawer cleaned out and almost empty (kept the food coloring and vanilla extract). I think some of them may have even moved from CA to FL to OK and then back to CA.SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-39014050155062220742009-04-09T22:18:00.000-07:002009-04-17T16:30:16.723-07:00ElinorAs some of you know my mother was killed last week (April 1). Butter and salt they're actually tasty.

Today I actually ate left-over brussel sprouts for lunch. Have to admit -- they smelled funky. The below is the e-mail I got in response from ATT. Am I crazy or is there not a $200 surcharge to "early upgrade" - an 8G iphone costs only $199. How does "you can early upgrade to an iPhone for $399" - $199 not equal $200??????
---------------
Dear Ms. X,

Thank you for taking the time to e-mail AT&T in regards to not being
able to purchase the iPhone online without paying a $200 surcharge. I
apologize that you have not been able to purchase an iPhone online. My
name is XXX XXX, and I am happy to help you with your inquiry.

I have reviewed your inquiry and was not able to find that a $200
surcharge is accessed when purchasing the iPhone. The iPhone itself is
$199 for the 8GB and $299 for the 16GB and is available for qualified
upgrades only. Our records indicate that wireless number X
will be eligible for a discounted upgrade as early as 10/26/2009.

You will be able to upgrade early to the iPhone 3G at the price of
$399.00 for the 8 gigabyte model and $499.00 for the 16 gigabyte model.
A new 2 year commitment and an $18.00 upgrade fee are required for
iPhone 3G upgrades. You will be able to upgrade your phone at any
company owned AT&T location, Walmart or Best Buy.SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-10988260935730049972009-01-29T08:53:00.001-08:002009-01-29T08:55:20.914-08:00New Road Hazard via ScooterSo today I almost ran over a partially-squished animal on the road. That would have been awful. Bad enough I got a closer view than normal. Hadn't thought about how much closer I am to road-kill than I usually am from the safe confines of my car! We received the request for the filming OK from Eric Wood. The receptionist then had to notify Eric Wood that we are be having a fire drill sometime that afternoon, during their filming schedule. But she addressed the e-mail to Ed Wood. Not Eric Wood. Too funny.

My brain immediately skipped to the film Ed Wood and Plan 9 from Outerspace and cross-dressing.

FILM: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109707/

ED WOOD: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000248/bio

I’m sure Eric doesn’t cross-dress and isn’t a descendant of Ed's but this was very funny for me this morning.SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-3809797627913853812009-01-15T14:27:00.001-08:002009-01-15T14:29:17.435-08:00The Daily CoyoteIn looking for a book to read on Amazon today I stumbled upon this woman's blog about a coyote she by total chance now has as a pet. I paid via PayPal. I accidentially used the wrong address with the first payment. So I fixed the mailing address and paid again. Asking the ebay vendor to use the Pasadena address not the OKC. Well she accepted both payments. Then to make matters worse she sent the merchandise to the OKC address.

Now as of 1/8/09 - I've still never received the merchandise. I "protested" this double pay on Pay-Pal. They found in her favor simply because she could show mailing labels. PayPal told me to ask her for the other payment back.

I asked. She refused. I asked again in a different way, she refused again.

Finally, today I called the credit card company (thank you USAA) and protested one of the charges. Thankfully they will refund the money.

I don't even care that I've never received the merchandise (well I do). What REALLY burned me was that she got paid twice for merchandise I never received. So now I've fixed that.

She gets the money for the merchandise I never received partly due to my own fault - but at least I've not paid her twice for merchandise I never got!SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-79631612019429027162008-12-22T16:26:00.000-08:002008-12-22T16:30:03.022-08:00Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Feliz Navidad, etc.Christmas Dinner (12/24) Menu:
Veggie Tray Appetizer
Cheese & Crackers
Mixed Olive Spread on Bread
------
Prime Rib
Ham
Green Beans
Corn
Scalloped Potatoes
Spinach Stuffed Tomatoes
Green Salad
Rolls
----
Apple Pie al a mode
Sees Candy

Probably too much but WTH it's the Holidays!SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-45596681250401144972008-12-15T15:50:00.000-08:002008-12-15T15:54:12.251-08:00Today I love FacebookSo today I stumbled upon a photo in a friends album of an old high-school guy who I had a HUGE crush on. People I haven't seen or talked to in 20 years are finding me on there. Somedays it's great to see what people are doing and that they've had kids and how old they are, other days it just seems like a huge waste of time. How many electronic web-pages are we supposed to keep up? Am I really supposed to put in what I'm doing on a daily basis like some? "X is blogging right now."

Also people are sending me "drinks" and "trees" and "eggs" and all sorts of application things. A Snowball was the latest.

It feels a bit like high school - are clicks going to start forming? Where's the Senior's Table? Am I allowed in the Quad now? I think in the future we will be paying ALOT for water. But right now it's not very costly. Happily a co-worker gave me her old water storage containers so I now have 17 gallons? of water stored in case of emergency. I still probably need more but for now that will have to do.SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-84905942283755447412008-11-19T15:16:00.000-08:002008-11-19T15:26:11.622-08:00Supply update<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7r8enokjxzqlrMuk8UbefikZWtdmUdbgw8cGweNe8Dtf4_5LlrFxfly1JtSZy7IpsbUYuv7fWWUON5kwB80BN10P5L6YFdm7RPHFBcCIVIj9ZXH6yR5_oLhlAUD0ZkJesIoAGhovIgA/s200/Firepit.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270513865480950466" />
So all the earthquake food arrived (phew!). Now I just need to store water, water and more water (and keep the cat food stocked) and I'm good to go.

Actually -- I still need a tent and/or tarp, rope to hang said tarp, a swiss army knife, matches in water-proof container. A pot that's easy to heat up water in (for that 30 year dried food I bought).

But essentials are mostly done.

Earthquake preparedness may give me the excuse I've been looking for to buy an outdoor firepit. I have some water, need lots more. I purchased light sticks and dust masks a couple of weeks ago. Need more batteries for the flashlights. I have a hand-crank radio/light. Now I really just need to put it all together somewhere and store more water and I think I'll be good.

We are having a big earthquake drill on Thursday. It has made me very aware that I'm not prepared. The San Andreas fault has a major earthquake every 150 years (i.e. greater than 6.5) and the last time it shifted was 1680. So 178 years overdue!

Now it just can't happen for the next 10 days as that's probably when all my supplies will arrive.SAMhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12641480210342670480noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2422021911673455818.post-29809992787161576622008-11-10T13:46:00.000-08:002008-11-10T13:47:34.786-08:00Vegas Baby!4 days and I go to Vegas for the weekend.
